Overview The Visitor Services and Information Assistant provides front-line support to the public at visitor centers, ranger stations, and recreation sites. This position assists in greeting visitors, answering questions, sharing safety and recreation information, and supporting interpretive or outreach programs. The role offers valuable experience in public engagement, customer service, and natural resource communication within federal land management agencies.

Position Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist visitors in person, by phone, or via email.
  • Provide accurate information about recreation opportunities, park rules, permits, and safety.
  • Assist with staffing visitor centers, exhibits, and information desks.
  • Support educational and interpretive programs or special events.
  • Help prepare and distribute brochures, maps, and outreach materials.
  • Collect and record visitor use data, passes, and fee transactions as assigned.
  • Maintain visitor areas, ensuring a clean and welcoming environment.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Incoming, current, or recent SUU student preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; enjoys working with the public.
  • Interest in natural resources, parks, outdoor recreation, or public service.
  • Basic computer and office skills (email, spreadsheets, document editing).
  • Ability to remain courteous and professional in high-traffic or stressful situations.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups or leading short presentations.
  • College coursework in communications, recreation, or related fields preferred.
